Traditionally, seeding of an activated sludge system is carried out either through:

• A daily program of injecting a reducing quantity of either liquid or dry culture of pure strain bacteria into the aeration tank, or
• Transferring a known quantity of seeding bacteria from a sewage treatment plant into the intended aeration tank.

The first method is both costly and time-consuming, not to mention the extreme difficulty to generate some 3,000 – 4,000 mg/L of MLVSS (Mixed Liquor Volatile Suspended Solids) from scratch. The second method tends to create more problems for your system from the rubbish (plastic bags, sanitary pads, etc) that comes with the activated sludge from the sewage plants, clogging up your pumping station.

Instead of depending on the natural occurring growth rate of an activated sludge system which may take weeks to months to be fully functional, we offer an immediate, ready-to-operate biological system of 4,000 – 12,000 mg/L of MLVSS. Our recommendations are as follows:

• Go for the 4,000 mg/L MLVSS seeding bacteria if your biological system is small – below 50 m³ aeration volume.
• Go for proportionally higher MLVSS seeding bacteria for bigger capacity aeration tanks.
